Finding Carlton is a true labor of love. One doesn’t think of the words jazz and India as going together, but Susheel Kurien’s heartwarming documentary takes us on an unexpected journey. Great musicians and fantastic playing are universal. Finding Carlton is absorbing and eye-opening.

Your film is so precious if only because it was miraculous that you could dig up the past and all the clips from that era.
Looking at the beautiful archival photos of Indian Jazz Bands featuring leading ladies akin to our Leana Horne, and realizing that African-American Jazz Bands & musicians had come to India was so overwhelming. To realize that Indians and African Americans had a significant relationship (via jazz) meant so much.
So the work that you have undertaken is very special and it would be an honor to work with you to have the film widely exposed as well as work with you in developing a teaching curriculum to go along with the film. Such works are critical to the development of wider understandings and enriched relationships.
